Stock photos for sale in a changing market – Corbis stock photo agency realizes the change in the stock photo industry and indicates new directions for the distribution of stock pictures.

These interviews with key personnel at the big international image provider Corbis was done back in November 2008 but as I see the changing scene of the business of stock photography today these changes are still relevant for any stock photographer as well as for any stock photo agency.

Without a dynamic approach to the fierce competition in the stock photography market it isn’t possible to survive the present reduction in the spending of companies and publishing houses on advertising and creative productions. – So take carefully notice of this stock photo video.

The whole business of selling stock photos is depending on a number of common market forces like any commercial product but the stock industry has its own peculiarities. These are linked to the popularity of taking pictures among most people and the pleasant feeling of showing your pictures to others.

As long as you are just shooting pictures for fun the reward is mainly linked to getting encouraging feedback from peers. When people become more absorbed in photography and go into taking pictures as a true hobby they are able to invest unlimited amounts of time and for the well-off also much money.

For the professional photographer the allocation of especially time but also of expenses for photographic equipment, studio facilities etc. have to be calculated carefully to have a successful business as a photographer.

As is highlighted in the video the internet is flooded with pictures online, but of cause not available for everyone just to download and not of professional quality. Anyway the segments of the stock photo market are very fluid these years and the stock photographer as well as the picture agencies have to face the situation.

The nature of digital pictures as digital files that are easily send across the Globe is another important aspect of the changing scene of the stock photo business.

For the buyer of stock photos the quest is to find the perfect picture for a specific application and to find the picture as fast as possible to the most competitive price. But also to make sure that the same photo isn’t being used by other customers for a similar purpose for the same target group.

For the stock photographer the challenge is to produce that kind of perfect pictures and to submit them to one or more of the most successful picture distributors that are expected to be in the market place for stock images for the many years to come.

This last point is especially important as any established stock photographer will know how much work is required to get the new stock photos ready for the submission to the chosen stock photo agency. The work from the pictures is taken successfully to it is sold successfully is certainly a demanding path.

Using a monopod takes away the element of luck in getting sharp images and is an essential tool for Yuri. You don’t want to select away otherwise great photos because they’re not sharp – this video show you all the amazing things you can do with a monopod, even this ’smart’ monopod from Manfrotto isn’t very durable.
